Players burn with passion

Midway through the Boston Premier League and Champions League, the intensity is at an all-time high.

Midway through the Boston Premier League and Champions League, the intensity is at an all-time high.

Last week Wednesday, league newcomers, Mighty Midgets took on Majuba FET in a highly competitive game.

The newcomers have begun to find their feet by fielding a consistent side.

Majuba FET was determined to take points home, after its dismal start to the season. While the teams were evenly matched, it was the FET boys who secured the victory in a three-one game that could have gone either way.

Atletico still riding a wave of victories, demolished struggling Hungry Lions with a six-nil drumming.

Goals from Faadhil Palm, Hasan Randeree, Mohammed Omarjee and Sufiyaan Hathurani ensured Atlethico’s victory parade was deserved.

Mighty Midgets played once more on the same evening against Real Alenco.

Following its three-two victory over Ababeel, Real Alenco was determined to keep the winning streak going. Against Mighty Midgets, the team came into its own, capitalising on its opponents faults, and scoring eight goals in the game. The final score read eight-one in favour of Real Alenco.

On Friday, Atletico continued to dominate the field when it clashed with Lusitano in the Champions League.

With goals from almost every player on the field, Atletico rolled over Lusitano with an eight-five scoreline.

Spartans determined to forget its ten goal difference loss to Stucky Zenith, came up strong against Al-Ahly in the Champions League.

Fan of the 300 outfit, Bradley Miller said he favoured his side to win due to excellent skills from players Wortly Swarts, Elton Geduld and Jomo Katz.

“Spartans will win four-one, because they want to be in the finals,” he predicted.

However, his predictions were wrong, when Al-Ahly managed to secure victory with attacks from the very beginning.

A quick goal and Al-Ahly fell into a controlling position. Spartans fought back hard, but the game ended seven-three in favour of the league giants.

Al-Ahly manager, Faheem Paruk conceded Spartans played a good game, but lacked leadership and chemistry.

On Monday Al-Ahly received a walkover to secure its place at the top of the league, after Madadeni Boys lost to the in-form Stucky Zenith.

In the action-packed game, every move and every choice was possibly decisive.

Challenges came in hard, and dives were plenty, but the book of the ref ensured players adhered to the rules.

Madadeni Boys drew first blood with a lovely chip in, but a curler from outside the box put Stucky Zenith back in the game.

Soon after, the fighting Zenith re-emerged and netted in a pincer move that put the team into the lead.

Dr Gregory Maistry made his mark on the game, when coming on from the bench and netted in two stunners for his side.

Although Madadeni Boys pushed one more, it was Stucky Zenith that emerged victorious, leaving the two teams battling for dominance behind league leaders, Al-Ahly.

“We will not lose to them again! This is how much this game means to us,” exclaimed a jubilant Stucky Zenith manager, Ziyaad Hoosen.

Mighty Midgets continued to impress when the team took on Juventus in an evenly matched game.

Mighty Midgets took the lead early on, and kept adding on until the score read three-nil.

Juventus, desperate for a win, looked set for another loss, but after scoring a few goals the game was on fire once more.

Both teams made impressive moves, but it was Juventus that eventually triumphed, with the final score reading seven-five.

Juventus will hopefully use this win to build some confidence, although many fans felt Mighty Midgets were the deserved winners.

The raw talent of some of the Mighty Midgets’ players has caught the eye of some of the league’s top teams, and there is a definite possibility for some of the players to be transferred when the markets open up again.
