This question and a few more on the superiority of fishermen in the area, were answered at the Angling Professional League’s prize-giving recently.

There, members of the League were rewarded for their efforts during the season.

As winners of four of this season’s League competitions and the Grand Challenge, the Paper House team earned itself R2 500.

Fishing People and Streetwire earned R500 each for Knock-Out and League 1 respectively.

In terms of individual accolades, Monty Slabbert hoisted the Angler of the Year trophy, and received a weekend break for the family at the Drakensberg, to the tune of R4 000.

Naesh Rajkumar and Matthew Shunmugam also received R500 each.

This prize money was awarded for the anglers cracking the 4- and 10kg marks in the scaled and non-scaled categories respectively, during the Grand Challenge.

Other title holders honoured at the prize-giving were:

Naesh Rajkumar – heaviest scaled fish; Matthew Shunmugam – heaviest non-scaled fish; Shakeel Sheik and Kishore Datadin – heaviest scaly; Shane Mangaroo – Champion of Champions; Harry Singh – Knock-Out Champion, Internal KO Singles Champion; Avi Buduram – Junior Angler of Year; Dan Govender – Senior Angler of the Year; Rishen Nankoo and Minesh Gopi – Knoc- Out Doubles Champions; Whity Maharaj – Social Outing Champion for Scaled and Non-Scaled Categories; Oosie Oosthuizen – Grand Challenge Champion; Monty Slabbert – Most Fish Caught, Highest Point Scorer,

League Champion and Angler of the Year. Special awards were presented to Suniana Ramlal as Lady Angler of the Year, and Yacoob Patel for landing a rare bass catch of 3,02kg at Chelmsford Dam.

The new season begins on August 1 and promises to be exciting, not least of all with the new affiliates joining the fold.
