Bad losers mar football match

Shooting Stars were leading 0-1 when the referee awarded the penalty in the dying minutes.

There were ugly scenes when Dundee Rangers scored a disputed penalty to draw with Sobantu Shooting Stars of Pietermaritzburg in a Vodacom league game played at the Mpumelelo stadium on Saturday, May 9.
Shooting Stars were leading 0-1 when the referee awarded the penalty in the dying minutes.
The penalty was converted and when the final whistle blew, players and Shooting Stars management surrounded the referee who tried to flee.
However, he was knocked to the ground and assaulted. Rangers’ supporters, from both Dundee and Glencoe, reacted to the insults thrown at them by the visiting team whose officials it was claimed were under the influence of alcohol.
The police were called to the stadium to rescue the referee. Shooting Stars top the log with Natal United of Msinga in second spot.
