Soccer madness at Fernwood Grounds

Fernwood Sports Grounds crackled with electrifying energy on Saturday.

Seven teams from Tongaat, Durban, Chatsworth, Phoenix, Pietermaritzburg and Umlazi participated in a series of football games.

With the teams catering for players over 50, Newcastle had its own team at hand to defend its home ground from the invading forces.

Newcastle participated in three of the nine matches.

During the match against Pietermaritzburg, Newcastle walked off victorious with a four – nil win.

Newcastle then lost one – nil against Phoenix and two – one against Chatsworth.

Despite the two losses, the matches were far from walkovers and the teams and spectators thoroughly enjoyed the day.
