Senior Northern KwaZulu-Natal karateka are battle-ready, following an intensive training session on the weekend.

Senior Northern KwaZulu-Natal karateka are battle-ready, following an intensive training session on the weekend.

Serving as a preparation for the upcoming NKZN Championships, taking place this Saturday at the Farmers Hall, the karateka trained to greet the more than 200 entries from affiliated JKA clubs from Dundee, Hluhluwe, Ladysmith, Paulpietersburg, Piet Retief, Pongola, Volksrust and Vryheid.

Kihon, kata and kumite were the focus of training.

Following the two-hour session, a refresher course was held for judges and referees, specifically concentrating on the JKA rules and regulations for the upcoming championships.

A big oss from JKA Newcastle to all karateka and helpers who put in effort and hard work to ensure the weekend will be a success.

“Without you, this tournament would not be possible,” added Sensei Johan Swart.
