Angler of the year was awarded to club captain, Monty Slabbert, while treasurer, Kidd Rampersadh walked away with the Senior Angler of the Year.

After 23 years, Breakwaters Angling Club is still growing consistently producing the winning results many have come to associate with the club.

Last weekend, the club celebrated its year end function and culmination of the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons.

Club treasurer, Kidd Rampersadh, said it had been two special years and seasons for the club.

“Although we lost long standing members, Manny Praag and Sunker Bhooli, we managed to defend our Natal Fresh Water Angling Association League Championship League Title.”

Breakwaters topped the log at the end of the season 20 points more than their nearest competitors. Furthermore, the club won a treble in the 2013/2014 season, winning the league, League Knock-out, and Grand Challenge.

“We have now been promoted to the Angling Professional League. Thus far the season has been excellent, and we promise to keep giving it our all, and hopefully produce and excellent result at the end of the season,” said club president Matthew Shunmugam.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Afzul Rehman, said although he had no personal interest in fishing, he was glad to see residents were so passionate about sport.

Representing the younger members of the club, Jermain Mohan was awarded the Junior Angler of the Year.
