Sending inequality to the canvas

Local boxers prove to be champions.

Despite coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, local cadet boxers (comprising of both girls and boys aged between 12 to 14 years) were declared provincial champions.

They represented Umzinyathi at the provincial boxing championships in Richards Bay last month. Most started the sport at the age of eight and because opportunities are limited, many give up boxing.

Training is done in a basement at the Sibongile hall.

Lindelani Sibisi and Judy Mthembu were selected to represent KZN in the National Boxing Championships in Welkom.

Pretty Totetsi, their assistant coach, has appealed for readers to assist with the donation of takkies, tracksuits, sports bags, towels and toileteries.

She also thanked Umzinyathi District, Ismael’s Trading, S Boxer Super Stores and Dr SG Kunene for their support.
