Cops to lead team in martial arts championships

The championship will have participants from all nine provinces competing in four disciplines, ie karate, kung-fu, kickboxing and judo

Two dedicated local police officers, namely Lt Colonel VJ Cele (Ladysmith Detective Commander) and Lieutenant F Masondo (Ulundi Career Management), are both martial arts experts. They will lead a martial arts team at a martial arts championship that will be held in October this year in the Gauteng area.

The championship will have participants from all nine provinces competing in four disciplines, ie karate, kung-fu, kickboxing and judo.

Col Cele (also known as Bruce Lee) previously led the Eastern Cape martial arts team and held the position of provincial martial arts co-ordinator until he took up his current post in Ladysmith. He is a sensei and holds Third Dan in Black Belt. Lt Masondo holds Fourth Dan in Black Belt.

They have been doing karate (full body contact) for the past 30 years and both possess international colours in the sport.

Col Cele is keen to instruct karate (all styles) in Ladysmith. He is especially interested in working with the youth and can be contacted on 073-527-4927 / 071-018-7465 or fax to e-mail 086-510-7661. Colonel Cele is also working on developing interest in martial arts among police personnel.
