A two bowl trips competition was played last Saturday with an excellent turnout of 54 bowlers who all enjoyed the proceedings, generously sponsored by SGB Cape and also Hilldrop B &B, Drakensberg Lodge, Umfazi Safety and TLF.

One game was played before tea and the next game was based on strength versus strength based on the first round results. The winning teams were :

1st : Gordon Dowsett, Lou Roux and Alex Zaal (four pts + 17) ;

2nd : Sid Price, Simon Pierson and Elena Roux (four + 11);

3rd : Dot Crosbie, Petro Reyneke and Jean Ball (four + seven).

A spyder was held to raise funds for the Blind Bowlers Association and a healthy sum of R1300 was generated.

Preliminary trials for the selection of the 2015 Provincial teams were held in Vryheid recently.

The following local players were selected for the teams to play in the Presidents Cup in October :

Ladies A : Samantha Shaw, Michele Steele and Alice Howe ;

Ladies B : Sue Hutchinson; Ladies Seniors : Dot Crosbie and Marie Botha;

Presidents team : Vicky van der Merwe.

Men A : Norman Forbes, John and Trevor Douthwaite.

Men B : Douglas Steele, Stephen Shaw and Tony de Poorter (Volksrust).

Senior Men: Ron Howe.

Presidents team: Monty Steele, Fritz Botha, Trevor Hutchinson and Gerhard Smith (Volksrust).
