Couple’s passion for road running

As part of training they run daily, long weekend runs as well as marathons to prepare themselves for longer distance marathons

Nisha and Amri Sewnun are going the distance together.
The college sweet hearts met in 1984 and within 30 years of marriage bore two sons who are both engineers.
Nisha mentioned how much her family supports their running and they even take part in runs to show support.
The couple became involved in running when Amri decided to give up smoking and thought it would be a great way to relieve stress.
“I became greatly motivated as I watched my students run at school fun-runs,” Nisha said.
“I never thought I’d part take in marathons one day as I wasn’t an athlete when I was younger,” she added.
The couple wanted to belong to a club and thought why not the Forderville Athletics Club.
They have been with this club since it was established. They believe it’s more enjoyable running alongside friends than doing it alone.
The first marathon Amri and Nisha ran together was the Two Oceans 11 years ago.
As part of training they run daily, long weekend runs as well as marathons to prepare themselves for longer distance marathons.
While running for many people may either be a way of keeping fit and staying in shape, not for these running buddies.
To stay motivated to run and not let laziness get the best of them, running has become a goal to be achieved.
To keep fit the couple plays tennis, does aerobics, goes hiking and engages in cross training.
Nisha and Amri, being recreational runners and not competitive runners, are open to receive training advice.
Time management helps Nisha and Amri juggle both teaching and running.
Running for them is seen as “me time” says the couple. The first highlight for the two was the Dolphin Coast Marathon.
The most rewarding thing about running for the couple is the feel of just you and the road, and the pleasurable site of the scenery.
Running is what keeps this couple happy.
Tightening their running shoes together Amri has received his green number for both running and walking more than ten ultra marathons, and Nisha received her blue colours for running her tenth half marathon.
Amri and Nisha look forward to many more sweaty but stress relieving training sessions alongside other running buddies, and marathons that wear their running shoes soles away.
