Good conditions for low scoring

Golfing conditions were excellent, with little if any wind, good sunshine and no rain, making low scoring very possible

The Ladysmith Gymnastics Club sponsored the golf competition at the Ladysmith Country Club on Saturday afternoon and this Four-Ball Better-Ball Stableford competition attracted a good field of golfers. Golfing conditions were excellent, with little if any wind, good sunshine and no rain, making low scoring very possible. The competitors took full advantage to return some excellent scores.

Winners of the event were Tommy Beneke and Kim Boardman with 50 points on a count-out from Enrico Bozza and Andrea Sirchia. Geoff Lee and Dave Salmond were third with 47 points, and fourth place went to Vernon Naidoo and Calvin Naidoo. ‘Nearest the Pin’ winners were Ash Ranoo, Vernon Naidoo, Gerry Grobler and Andrea Sirchia, with Calvin Naidoo winning the ‘Longest Drive’ and Stuart Hanlon the ‘Longest Putt’ prizes. Kim Boardman won the prize for being ‘Nearest the Tree’. Andrea Sirchia, Dave Salmond, Thokozani Dladla, Sipho Hlongwa and Wynand Wessels carded two-clubs.

Thanks to Ria Nel and the Ladysmith Gymnastics Club for the arrangements and sponsorship of this competition. The prize-giving was followed by a gymnastics display by the local gymnasts and was enjoyed by all.

The third round of the Business League, sponsored by Ferobrake, was played on Thursday afternoon and some really good scores were returned in the nine-hole Alliance competition, especially the 53 points from Team Lotus with Wessie shooting the lights out during his round.

The Friday evening ‘100 Club’ draw was won by Fidelma Hanlon (again), only this time she decided to go elsewhere for dinner so we now have a carry-over draw this Friday.
