The Newcastle Golf Club was a hive of activity on Saturday (September 28) when the Newcastle Lions Club hosted their annual charity golf day.

Although wind speeds picked up throughout the day, threatening to ruin even the most experienced golfer’s record, the conditions were mostly fantastic for entrants into the Newcastle Lions Club’s annual Charity Golf Day.

The event featured a shotgun start format, allowing golfers of all skill levels to participate. As players took to the greens, the spirit of friendly competition was palpable, with many vying for prizes in various categories, including longest drive and closest to the pin.

Water tables, sponsored by local businesses, helped golfers preserve their strength and push on for the full round of 18. All funds raised will support the Newcastle Lions Club’s on-going efforts to make a difference as they continue to serve our community.

Competition results were as follows:

Men

1.R. Engelbrecht/J. Bonthuizen Jnr (50 points)

2.Ronnie Acker/Jannie Esterhuizen (48 points onco)

3.Christo & Hannelie le Roux (48 points onco)

4.Divan Geel/Shaun Elliott (48 points onco)

5.Owen van Aarde/ Barry Glutz (46 points)

Ladies:

1. Megan & Spunita Morgenrood

2. Parool Karsan & Stella van Zyl

3. Lize Smith & Carla Greyling

The Newcastle Lions Club thanks the sponsors and all those who donated to make the day an incredible success. Next competition is the Newcastle Golf Club Monthly Mug (medal) on October 5.
