Fairleigh resist Zim stars to score memorable victory

The RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League had the Fernwood soccer grounds buzzing with soccer action on Sunday (Sept. 15)

Fairleigh United and Zimbabwe Stars, the current log leaders, kicked off the action with Stars eager to wrap up the game. Fairleigh United, however, were not in the mood to make it easy for them.

Fairleigh United took Judmark out of the game and Boka and Dumi began to dominate the Zim Stars’ midfield which resulted in Boka getting the opening goal through Boka.

With important players, Miso, Stanley, and Ocean missing, Zim Stars struggled to keep possession.Fairleigh United pressed on and scored a second when Zim Stars called a foul and stopped playing. After the referee permitted play to continue, Boka netted a second. Desmond, the Zim Stars’ coach, lost his calm and received a red card for dissent.

Fairleigh United won 3-1 with Zim Stars failing to make an impact in the second half.

In the second encounter, the Spartans proved too powerful for the Hammers, winning 2-0.The final match of the day pitted City of Refuge against Newcastle Legends.

Shabir scored the Legends’ first goal but City of Refuge equalised through Tyrell. City of Refuge soon began to dominate the game but their efforts proved to be in vain and were unable to convert their dominance into a goal. Newcastle Legends turned things around in the second half and the game may have been won by either club but it finished in a 0-0 draw.
