Parkrun: a weekly festival of fitness and friendship

On a scorching Saturday morning, August 25, volunteers and runners gathered at Snips Bird Farm for the weekly parkrun.

Despite the punishing heat slowing many participants down, the spirit of parkrun shone through. It’s not about how fast you finish, but about participating and enjoying the experience.

Since its launch in 2004, parkrun has evolved into a global movement, turning Saturday mornings into a celebration of health, community, and inclusivity. While the primary aim is to encourage physical activity, parkrun has also become a vibrant space where people build a sense of belonging. Runners often take part with partners, children, and even pets by their side.

As the weather shifts and winter fades away, it’s the perfect time for everyone to dust off their running shoes and embrace the arrival of spring with a healthy start.

Parkrun is a free, weekly event held every Saturday morning at Rooi Point Farm.
