Newcastle Model Aircraft Club host Ian Edwards Tournament

The Newcastle Model Aircraft Club was fortunate enough to have hosted the Ian Edwards Tournament of Champions at the Newcastle Airport grounds from August 9 - 11.

This was the first time that Newcastle hosted this prestigious event which saw competitors coming from Durban, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

According to organisers, the turnout of 25 pilots meant it was the best attendance in any IMAC event in SA for the past several years.

This event was also said to be a huge boost for Newcastle tourism.

There were six levels of difficulty in which pilots competed including Basic, Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced, Unlimited, and Freestyle.

Despite the windy conditions, the competition went extremely well, and the level of friendship and competition between the pilots was noted as nothing short of amazing.

The pilots all needed to fly known international sequences of manoeuvres ranging in various levels of difficulty.

The winners of each category were as follows:

The competition is held yearly in honour of Ian Edwards, who has been flying for many years and has been the backbone of IMAC model aircraft in KZN.
