Bitten by the running bug at Parkrun

From the organisers to the volunteers, Parkrun enthusiasts just can’t seem to keep themselves away from the track every Saturday morning.

Enthusiastic runners, joggers, and walkers gathered in their numbers on Saturday (July 13) to enjoy the weekly 5km Parkrun at the Rooi Point farm.

Parkrunners go back week after week because the rapid infusion of community, exercise, fresh air, and social interaction is just what is needed to set the mood for the weekend.

“Once the Parkrun bug bites, it never leaves you,” said Park Run event organiser Gwyneth Root.

Not only is the Parkrun a space where you get to compete against yourself, it is also very much about community building, as many of the Parkrun enthusiasts foster a unique sense of family.

It is a space where the entire local community, regardless of age or gender, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful and serene scenery whilst getting their daily dose of exercise.

Root encourages all to join the free event that is open to all.
