Young Elephant to play at top level next season

The club held a trial session on Wednesday at Lambert Park, where the club aimed to recruit good players to beef up their squad

Estcourt soccer club Young Elephant FC has confirmed that they will now be playing in the ABC Motsepe League after securing ‘league status’ from Ladysmith club Drakensberg FC.

Playing in the Nomgwenya Security uThukela Men’s Regional League in the 2023-24 season, Young Elephant failed to qualify for the Hollywoodbets Men’s regional play-offs after finishing second on the log with 69 points, behind Junior Eleven FC on 72 points.

Team manager Nathi Mchunu confirmed that the club bought the ABC Motsepe League status from Drakensberg FC. “When we played in the regional league, our aim was to get promotion to the Motsepe League, but we couldn’t due to circumstances. We then found another opportunity after it emerged that Drakensberg FC is releasing its status in the Motsepe League. As the management, we then agreed to buy the status after we met to discuss the issue,” said Mchunu.

He added that they held a trial session this week in order to secure good players, including ones with experience.
