Newcastle oval track drivers in red hot form at Randfontein’s Piston Cup

Of the Newcastle drivers, Cedric Stowe put in the best performance finishing a creditable third place in the 2.1 modified class.

Four drivers represented the Newcastle Oval Track at the Golden Piston Cup hosted by the Randfontein Oval Raceway in Gauteng on Saturday.

The action was hot and varied as racers from around the country flocked to the raceway to pit their skills against one another.

Of the Newcastle drivers, Cedric Stowe put in the best performance finishing a creditable third place in the 2.1 modified class.

Cedric managed a podium finish despite being up against vehicles that boasted a higher spending power.

Eugene Reynecke was placed 4th place in the 1660s and Hendrick van der Merwe 5th in the 1660s

Marthinus van Rooyen was unfortunately unable to get a placing after experiencing some technical issues.

Freelance photographer, Dillin Clarke, who accompanied the Newcastle racers to Randfontein said the local drivers could be very proud of their performances that showed that locally, oval track racing is highly competitive.

“The guys put in great performances despite being up against drivers from bigger clubs that probably have more resources. It was a proof that racing in Newcastle is going great guns,” Clarke said.
