Local bowlers compete for first prize
A record 40 players entered last week's Club drawn pairs competition last week Saturday afternoon (January 27).
Two rounds were played in sectional play followed by one on Sunday morning to determine the quarter finalists.
The teams qualifying for the knock out stages were:
Michelle Steele & Bennie van Vuuren; John Douthwaite & Marius Bouwer: Sid Price & Priester de Bruyn; Joan Schoon & Denise Phillips; Koen Pretorius & Mariska du Bruyn, Ron Howe & Nicola Redlinghuys; Alice Howe & Ryk Pepler and James Dlamini & Esther Willemse.
In quarter final matches Sid & Priester and Joan & Denise played superb bowls to outgun their hapless opponents Michelle & Bennie and John & Marius respectively whilst in the other games Ron & Nicola accounted for Alice & Ryk and Koen & Mariska beat James & Esther.
In the semi finals Sid & Priester and Joan & Denise continued their excellent form to record victories against Ron & Nicola and Koen & Mariska respectively.
The final will be played this coming Saturday afternoon (February 3)
