Scampions Academy successfully host first cricket tournament

The academy hosted their first inter-academy cricket tournament at Lincoln Heights Secondary Cricket field on Saturday (October 14)

The tournament featured four teams: Tandoori Titans, Kebab Killers, Naan Ninjas, and Paratha Pirates.

All 4 teams consisted of 8 players per team and the tournament format was a 7 over per side
contest.

The final of the tournament was between Tandoori Titans led by captain Ahmed Choonawala and Kebab killers which were led by captain Shayur Mahie . It was a closely matched contest which came down to the wire in that Kebab Killers required 4 runs from the last ball of the innings in order to be crowned champions. Captain courageous , Shayur Mahie , leading from the front , hit the last ball of the innings for a boundary and led his team, the Kebab Killers, to victory .

The following players received special accolades for their outstanding performances throughout
the tournament :-
Best Batsman :- Ahmed Choonawala with a total of 144 runs.
Bests Bowler :- Esa Jadwat with a total of 5 wickets .
Best player of the tournament :- Shayur Mahie with a total of 110 runs and 3 wickets.

Scampions Cricket Academy was formed in 2016 under the leadership and mentorship of
Newcastle’s local talented cricketer Husain Essop.y initially started with 3 kids and over the past 7 years has grown to
approximately 40 kids ages ranging from 5 years old to 16 years old .

The Academy offers individual one on one coaching and group sessions in order to facilitate the
kids’ process of attaining new skills and testing those skills amongst their team mates and peers
