Dannhauser Angling Club surges ahead in Mohamed Midas League

Mark Ince of Stillwaters AC leads the overall log table with 13 points, followed by Sikander Amod and Basheer Abdool of Dannhauser AC on 10 points each.

The Angling Professional League (APL) held their second league outing at Richgate Park on September 3.

Current log leaders, Dannhauser Angling Club, extended their lead by amassing 67 points; however, Breakwaters AC put in a spirited performance, finishing second with 57 points, followed by Freshwater Spartans AC on 42 points, Challengers AC with 30 points, and Stillwaters AC on 26 points.

Dannhauser AC seemed determined to make a statement by beating their arch rivals and roped in Santosh Baliram, of SB Baits fame and a renowned SA angler, into their ranks.

The Mohamed Midas League is headed by Dannhauser AC with 22 points, Breakwaters AC and Freshwater Spartans 16 points, Stillwaters AC 8 points, and Challengers AC with 6 points.

For the title of ‘angler of the day’, there was a toss-up between Tashriq Narotham (NDH) and Ruchir Buduram (BAC) tied on 9 points; however, Tashriq had one more fish in his keep net, winning the outright trophy, R200, and blue cap.

Ruchir Buduram did, however, catch the heaviest carp of the day, which tipped the scale at 3,792kg.

Mark Ince of Stillwaters AC leads the overall log table with 13 points, followed by Sikander Amod and Basheer Abdool of Dannhauser AC on 10 points each.

The top anglers in the other clubs include Ruchir Buduram (BAC) on 9 points, Naeem Ismail of Challengers AC on 7 points, and Sonia Du Plooy of Freshwater Spartans AC on 8 points.

The early title contenders are Ruchir Buduram (BAC, heaviest scaled fish, 3,792kg, L2), Ismail Syed (FSAC, junior angler of the year, 1 pt.), Sonia Du Plooy (FSAC, 8 pts.), Ronnie Rampersadh (BAC, senior angler of the year, 8 pts.), and Mark Ince (SAC, angler of the year) on 13 points.

The next round of the league will be held on September 17 at Richgate Park, which makes for an interesting contest as the teams go for glory.

The first registration period for the APL closed on September 19.
