New parkrun venue is launched with an attitude of gratitude

Parkrun takes place every Saturday at 8pm at Rooi Point Farm (entrance across from Snips). Entrance is free. To log your times, register on the parkrun website and remember to carry your unique barcode to the event.

The first official Rooi Point Farm parkrun took off on August 5 against a misty mountain backdrop to the ethereal melody of ‘Chariots of Fire’ played on bagpipes and drums by Michael and Billy Villiers.

The event drew 110 runners and walkers who joined in what event organiser, Gwyneth Root, described as a ‘celebration of people and music’.

It was with an attitude of gratitude that Root welcomed parkrunners to the new venue.

Root thanked John and Trevor Watson for making their farm available for the parkrun.

“John and Trevor bent over backwards to help us prepare the track with the mowing and grading, as well as the supplying of pipes that were used to drain off the excess water. They really went out of their way to help us serve the community of Newcastle,” said Root.
