A ‘Fairleigh unlucky’ outcome in the RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League

The RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League continued this past Sunday with Munawarah taking on Spartans.

Munawarah got off to a flying start when Spartans goalkeeper, Lehandre, made a fumble from a free kick that saw the ball fall to the feet of Mustafa, who tapped into the goal.

Munawarah continued to attack the Spartan goal, and 20 minutes into the game, they found themselves two goals ahead when Aboo scored.

In the second half, the Spartans made a few changes and began to get into the game. Munawarah continued to put attacks together but found the Spartans defence much more organised.

The Spartans did get a goal back through Clyde. With the game all but over, the Spartans scored another with virtually the last kick of the game.

Munawarah was left stunned and could not believe they had thrown away a winning game away. Both teams walked away with one point each.

High flying Zim Stars took on Newcastle Legends in a high-adrenaline game. Zim Stars launched attack after attack within the first 10 minutes.

Jadwell gave Zim Stars the lead when he headed home from a free kick. The Legends then lost Rovaal Kunju to a bad tackle that saw him carried off the field.

This left coach, Pranil Kunju, with a thin squad and he had to reshuffle his defence. Legends put together a few attacks but nothing of substance.

In the second half, Zim Stars continued with the pressure. It was the Legends that scored through Brian, whose long-range drive beat Zim Stars goalkeeper, Richardson.

With five minutes left in the game, Zim Stars had a free kick just outside the penalty area which saw Gele drive the ball straight into the net.

The Zim Stars thought that victory was all but sealed, only for Brian’s long range effort to end up in the Zim Stars goal.

The game ended with two goals apiece, with the Zim Stars being the unhappier of the teams.

In the next game, Park United took on Fairleigh United. Both teams played beautiful football, keeping soccer enthusiasts on their feet.

Park United scored and held on for a slender 1-1 win. Fairleigh United created more chances but were let down by their composure in front of goal.

On Saturday, Newcastle Legends took on Ladysmith Masters and Vryheid Masters.

Newcastle Legends lost the first game 1-1 to Vryheid but returned a goalless draw against Ladysmith.
