Freshwater Spartans Angling Club hosts a prestigious prize-giving ceremony

With the close of the 2022-2023 season, newcomers, Freshwater Spartans Angling Club, fishing under the banner of the Angling Professional League (APL), held their first prize-giving awards function on July 9.

After a very eventful season, anglers confirmed that they had gained a new vision when fishing: promoting the sport to the younger generation as well as lady anglers and fine-tuning the skills of angling enthusiasts.

The prize giving evening celebrated the achievements of anglers in various categories.

Most of these anglers had little or no knowledge prior to joining Freshwater Spartans AC as well as the Angling Professional League yet performed exceptionally well.

This is mostly attributed to the clinics that were held at the start of the season, and these anglers have developed into angling enthusiasts with great potential.

Freshwater Spartans, although a new club, is one of very few clubs that have both Provincial and National anglers within their ranks, which includes Brett Dettlefs (Provincial Angler), John Williams (Provincial coloyrs, SAFBAF), Sonja Du Plooy (KZN Female, KZN SAP, SAFBAF), and Vishal Dookhi (KZN, SAFBAF, Protea).

President of the APL, Matthew Shunmugam, stated that with such a fine pedigree of anglers within their ranks, the Freshwaters Spartans had indeed elevated the interest and competition within the APL and had great potential to produce more anglers who were destined to reach great heights within the angling fraternity.

This club boasts a wealth of experience when it comes to freshwater angling and uses this experience and exposure to fine-tune and hone the skills of fishing enthusiasts of all ages and genders.
