Highlanders descend on Flying Eagles in one fell swoop

The Boschpick Newcastle Highlanders NKZN team trounced the Flying Eagles at the Arbor Park sports grounds on Saturday, June 23, winning 78 – 21, and scoring 12 tries.

Commenting on the high quality Highlanders demonstrated with regards to their ball skills and handling, coach, André Swanepoel, commented, “It was very good ball handling and good finishing by us.”

“In a game like this, players can tend to play loose, but Highlanders stuck to their pattern, which led to them winning quick rucks. The lineouts and scrums were good,” Swanepoel added.

The team undoubtedly played well to produce the desired result. Lwazi Mthembu (13) impressed with his overall game while Kwand’s (12) distribution was outstanding.

Fernando Filipe (1) led from the front as captain, carrying and winning a lot of meters for the team.

Points for tries were as follows: Lwazi (13) – 3, Keanu (11) – 2, Anton (14) – 2, Ndlele (16) – 1, Herman (3) – 1, Luanda (4) – 1, Wessel (5) – 1, Jean (9) contributed 23 points, 1 try and 9 conversions.
