Local rivalry renewed at KZN Schoolgirls hockey tournament

St. Dominic's emerged the victors at the Spar KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge’s Northern KZN Regional on Saturday, May 6.

In a closely contested regional final, St. Dominic’s took on local school rivals Ferrum High School.

Since the tournament’s inception in 2011, Ferrum High School has dominated these regional championships with eight triumphs.

With emphatic victories throughout the day, both teams won their respective semi-finals and took first place in their respective pools.

Due to the equal skill levels of the two teams, the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, forcing a penalty shootout to decide the winner. St. Dominic’s won thanks to two successful penalties compared to Ferrum High’s one.

St. Dominic’s moves on to represent the region at the Grand finals that will take place in July.

Congratulations got to all the participating teams that contributed to a highly entertaining and competitive day of hockey.
