Newcastle Boschpick Highlanders host event to honour sponsors

The Newcastle Boschpick Highlanders Rugby Club hosted a kit unveiling at the club house on Friday evening to honour and thank their sponsors for their dedicated and continuous support.

Alistair van Wyk, Highlanders chairman, welcomed guests and thanked the sponsors present and gave special mention to Boschpick Engineering, the club’s main sponsor for the past 21 years.

He added that the club had managed to secure R191 000 in sponsorships, which he described as ‘amazing for an amateur rugby club, and that it was only possible as a result of the support the club received from their sponsors’.

“We are truly grateful to each and every one of you” he said.

Buks Visser, a representative of Boschpick Engineering, expressed his gratitude to head coach, Andrè ‘Swanie’ Swanepoel, for being an advocate for the sport for the past 40 years.

“He has taught this sport to so many young men in Newcastle, and he has helped make so many young men’s rugby dreams come true. We wish the teams all the best for the 2023 rugby season,” he said.

This was followed by a speech by Swanie, who also thanked all businesses and individuals for every donation – big or small.

“Every one of you is always willing to help us no matter what we need, and for that, we will make sure that we play smart rugby this year in your honour. You branded us and we will therefor play a brand of rugby that will make you and us proud,” he concluded.
