Ladysmith Angling Club dominates NFWAA Devland Impuphu League

The top three clubs were Ladysmith, Itec Freespool, and Chelmsford.

After five rounds of the NFWAA Devland Impuphu League, the Ladysmith angling club has built up an insurmountable lead.

The key to their success is first and foremost fielding a full team for each expedition, and secondly, communicating their catches with their team mates via their WhatsApp group.

In terms of point positions, the results for leagues four and five followed a typical pattern.

The top three clubs were Ladysmith, Itec Freespool, and Chelmsford, with the remaining four teams attempting to avoid the wooden spoon reward.

The league four prize winners were chosen from the association’s top two clubs.

Rodney Ince of Itec Freespool landed the largest carp (3.144kg), while Sudesh Singh of Ladysmith landed a 5.480kg barbel.

Mervyn Budhoo of Itec Freespool landed an 11.7kg barbel in zone two at Richgate Park, helping his team to a comfortable second place finish in league five.

Craig Chetty of Ladysmith caught the heaviest carp. Betty Bothma of Chelmsford got the day’s most unusual catch – a 1.63kg eel.

All scaled and non-scaled winners received a R200 voucher as well as the outright miniature trophy, compliments of Devland Impuphu wholesalers.

The current log rankings are as follows: Ladysmith 68, Itec Freespool 54, Chelmsford 52, Docrats 36, Endumeni 28, Ace Aqua 27 and Riverside 15.

The remaining league and knock out final results will determine who will compete in the champion’s trophy, where the league winners will fish against the knock out champions.

If, however, one team wins the league and knockout titles, the team that finished second in the league will be eligible to compete for the champion’s trophy.
