Madadeni boxer shines at international championship

Thandolwethu Mathiba has taken the amateur boxing world by storm after becoming the first South African female boxer to win a fight at the IBA World Women's Boxing Championship.

The 25-year-old Madadeni native has always been active in sports. At the age of 15, she began boxing for the province, traveling all over South Africa competing in national championships in the youth and junior categories.

After turning 19, she advanced to the elite category and won gold at the 2019 South African championships.
Thandolwethu has reached incredible heights given her humble beginnings and she credits that to her focus, determination and discipline.

“Never give up, is my advice. Boxing is a difficult sport to master, but with hard work, discipline, patience, and dedication, you can achieve success.”

She thanks the South African National Amateur Boxing Organisation (SANABO) for their unwavering support in her boxing journey.
