Golfers braved the sweltering heat of an early autumn heatwave to support the UD Trucks Huttenpark Golf Day on Saturday, March 11.
Huttenpark Primary School declared the event a resounding success, thanking both sponsors and players for their generous support.
The game followed the ‘two-ball better-ball’ format.
This golf format is played among teams of two golfers.
Each of the golfers in the team plays their own golf ball throughout and the lower score between them on each hole, counts as the team score.
The top 15 winning teams for the day were as follows:
- In 1st place were Carel le Roux and Frikkie Kruger
- In 2nd place were Ebert and Boland Koorts
- In 3rd place were Gerrie Combrink and A Valli
- In 4th place were Quinton van der Hoogen and Jeff Tinkler
- In 5th place were Johanu Bouwer and Danie Wessels
- In 6th place were Eric Blandin de Chalain and Janco Pistorius
- In 7th place were Wayne Krog and Benjé Kabongo
- In 8th place were M Nkosi and N Khumalo
- In 9th place were Tony Sharp and Alan Amos
- In 10th place were Ronny Acker and Jannie Esterhuizen
- In 11th place were Paul Byron and Owen van Aarde
- In 12th place were Brian Bordman and Albert Brits
- In 13th place were Louis du Plesis and Johan Jonker
- In 14th place were George Meyer and Deon Pfeil
- In 15th place was Eldred Davel
Zak Scholtz and Danie Wessels claimed the ‘Longest Day’ title, while Chris Khanyile was declared the winner in the Chipping Competition.
Khanyile also won first place in the nearest to the pin competition on hole 5, while Wilma Linidque won nearest to the pin on hole 8 with a hole-in-one.
Tony Sharp won nearest to the pin on hole 14 and Deon Pfeil won the title on hole 16.Longest drive winners included Brian Bordman on hole 15, Christiaan Botha on hole 3, Suné du Toit on hole 18 and Hannelie le Roux on hole 7.
The ‘Most Accurate Drive’ was won by N Khumalo on the 10th hole.
The day was concluded with an egg auction in which Craig Lindique purchased 300 eggs for a R2 000 donation to Huttenpark Primary and Danie Wessels purchased the same quantity of eggs for a R1 500 donation to the school.
Lindique pledged to donate the eggs he purchased to Tugela High School’s hostel, while Wessels is donating the eggs he purchased to La Gratitude.
