Sporting new white takkies, boys and girls aged from two to six, headed to the green cricket fields on Saturday for an introductory mini cricket coaching and games session.

Bright Start Academy was pleased to host the KFC-sponsored mini cricket programme which the kids embraced with a mix of excitement, nervousness, and enthusiasm as they began learning about a new sport.

The KFC sponsored mini cricket assisted Bright Start Academy with the programme which the children met with a combination of enthusiasm, nerves, and excitement as they set about learning about a new sport.

Newcastle coordinators, Rishi and Nashreen Nanan, said children as young as two  were taught the ‘ABCs of mini cricket, which are agility, balance, and coordination, through activities such as catching, running, ball awareness to prepare their basic motor skills and entry into the sport.’

Having these little ones on the field forced the coaches to think outside the box in order to teach the sport while also allowing the kids to have fun. To prepare the children for the game, they were introduced to batting, bowling, catching, running between wickets, and other skills at the age of six,” said Rishi.
