Port Natal claim honours at KZN bowls quadrangular tournament

Newcastle Bowling Club, last weekend hosted the annual KZN men’s quadrangular tournament, in which the four bowling districts in KZN, namely Port Natal (Durban and surrounds), Natal Inland (Pietermaritzburg and surrounds), Kingfisher (Lower South Coast), and KZNCB (The rest), competed against each other as a warm-up for the South African inter-provincial tournament in March.

(Dundee Bowling Club hosted the ladies tournament over the same weekend).

Each district was represented by A, B, veterans, and presidents teams, totalling 128 players.

Current Springboks, Bradley Robinson (Natal Inland) and Wayne Ritmuller (Port Natal) were present, and the many spectators witnessed high-quality bowling.

Port Natal won the A team section, with KZNCB coming in second.

The host district (KZNCB) was proud to win the B team section, followed by Port Natal, and the veterans section was won by Port Natal, with Kingfisher coming in second.

Natal Inland won the presidents section, with Kingfisher coming in second.

Port Natal won the overall trophy, with Natal Inland second, followed by KZNCB and Kingfisher.

The ladies tournament ended with Port Natal as the overall winner, followed by Kingfisher, KZNCB, and Natal Inland.

Newcastle and Dundee Bowling Clubs were both praised for their well-organised tournaments, with special mention given to the greens, catering, and general hospitality.

Both committees and members should be commended for hosting this event, which was a first for the KZNCB.

Vicky van der Merwe deserves special recognition for organising and running the tournament, as well as President Lukas Niemand, Ryk Pepler, and Sid Price for their efforts in keeping the greens and surrounding areas in good condition.
