Speed fans flock to witness first racing of the season

The committee is keen to ensure racing in Newcastle is ‘back on track’ and are looking to source new sponsors this year.

Race fans gathered at the Newcastle Oval Track in anticipation of the first race of 2023, on Saturday, February 4.

Prior to the race, the new committee was elected which is as follows:
– Chairman: Shaukat Khan
– Vice Chairman: Cedric Stowe
– Treasurer: Eugene Reynecke
– Secretary: Zaakira Khan
– Four driver representatives: Jan Delport, Hendrik van der Merwe, Shaun Teasedale and Zane Maartens.

The committee is keen to ensure racing in Newcastle is ‘back on track’ and are looking to source new sponsors this year.

Spectators were treated to top-notch entertainment as their favourite petrol-heads made their way onto the tracks, racing their way to victorious wins.

By the end of the night, the following racers took the overall winning positions:

Two wheelers division:

  • First: Hendrik van der Merwe
  • Second: Marcus Beeslaar
  • Third: Shaun Teasdale

2litre division:

  • First: Eugene Reynecke
  • Second: Wilmien van Rooyen
  • Third: Dewald Botha

1660 division:

  • First: Ruan Botha
  • Second: Tiaan Buys
  • Third: Mynhardt Myburgh

Hotrod division:

  • First: Hendrik van der Merwe
  • Second: Marthinus Van Rooyen
  • Third: Eugene Reynecke

Stockrods Division:

  • First: Jan Delport
  • Second: Zaakira Khan
  • Third: Shaun Teasdale

Racing fans can expect a year full of dust and excitement as the Newcastle Oval Track kicks off its 2023 season with vigour!
