Ron and Alice Howe dominate the competition at Club Pair finals

The consistency of Ron and Alice proved too much for the newcomers, and the veterans won the title for the umpteenth time.

The Newcastle Club Pairs final was played on Saturday afternoon between the vastly experienced duo, Ron and Alice Howe, and a pair of very new bowlers, Brandon Delport and Nicola Redlinghuys, who did extremely well to qualify for this playoff.

Brandon and Nicola started off well, scoring a single shot on each of the first two ends, but the consistency of Ron and Alice proved too much for the newcomers, and the veterans won the title for the umpteenth time.

Joan Schoon, Jan Winterbach, Martie Pepler, and Sampie van der Berg competed in a Spar-sponsored tabs in competition on Saturday afternoon, topping the leader board with 10 points, to easily claim the generous prizes.

This weekend, Newcastle Bowling Club will host the annual Ryder Cup, which pits Newcastle Bowling Club against the rest of the clubs in the Northern Zone.

This should be an interesting match, with the ‘Rest’ aiming to retain their title and Newcastle bowlers doing everything they can to prevent that from happening.

The 36 bowlers from each team will compete in three disciplines: fours, trips and pairs.

The Northern Zone prize giving will take place following the conclusion of the day’s play.
