Ruby players get ‘touchy’ to shrug off the winter blues

The day was filled with excitement, as many of the participants hadn’t played in quite some time, but they soldiered on and the spirit was admirable.

Shrugging off the winter blues, the inaugural Heritage Touchies Rugby Tournament brought together many enthusiastic teams that were keen to show off their skills on the field.

Held at the Cecil Emmet grounds, the tournament was set up to be a fund-raising opportunity where teams had to sign up and the proceeds would be donated to a local charity.

The day was filled with excitement, as many of the participants hadn’t played in quite some time, but they soldiered on and the spirit was admirable. The event was sponsored by local businesses.

In the end, the triumphant team was the Zulu Warriors, consisting of outstanding players such as Sticks Mbatha, Ntando Mbatha, Lwa Mbatha, Buhle Nene, Josh Robinson, Lindelwe Zungu and Arie Radebe.

Vryheid Rugby Club, who hosted the tournament and has been in full support of this initiative, implored the community to take part in next year’s event, as the idea is to make it an annual festival.
