Newcastle Bowling Club to host Northern Pairs

Teams from Dundee, Vryheid, Volksrust, Ncandu Bowling Club and Newcastle will compete.

This Saturday (September 10), Newcastle Bowling Club (NBC) will host the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Northern District Men’s and Ladies Pairs competition.

The competition promises to be exciting, with teams from Dundee, Vryheid, Volksrust, Ncandu Bowling Club and Newcastle competing. Many of the players are representatives of the local bowling district, competing at the Inter Provincial Tournament in March  next year.

A new format will also be introduced: three bowl pairs played over 18 ends. Play begins at 08:30 on Saturday and continues at 08:30 on Sunday.

We strongly encourage all players and those who are interested in participating in playing bowls or watching some fantastic games, to come down and watch,” said club vice-president, Vicky van der Merwe.

There will be players on hand to explain how the game works to those who are interested. Van der Merwe explained that bowls is the best sport for people of all ages, from as young as 5 and as old as 95.

We also have equipment for the physically disabled and because the game is 90% mental skill and 10% ability, anyone can play!”
