After six rounds of furious angling, Breakwaters was crowned the VME League Champion, and now faces the hurdle in the mighty Challengers.

These arch-rivals contest the Transnat Knock Out final on May 15.

Challengers’ determination and efforts have yielded much success, beating Breakwaters by a solitary point to set up this perfect Grand Challenge scenario.

However, Breakwaters soon settled the score.

“Breakwaters regrouped and added the Grand Challenge trophy to its collection, defeating Challengers by 49 points to 35,” explained APL management.

The titleholders for both Breakwaters and Stillwaters for the past season include Terrence Chetty (heaviest scaled fish – a carp of 3,65 kilograms; heaviest non scaled fish – a barbel of 9,005kg), Vicky Bhooli (heaviest scaly – 840 grams) and Uthveer Buduram (heaviest eel – 1,75kg).

Other titleholders are:

Ethan Burger (rare species – kurper of 625g and Junior Angler of the Year), Roshan Ramphal (Social Outing Champion – scaled category), Sikhander Amod (Social Outing Champion – non scaled category).

Shane Mangaroo earned the distinction of being Knock Out Singles Champion.

The Highest Point Scorer and Knock Out Champion was Monty Slabbert, with Talia Boodhoo confirmed as the female Angler of the Year.

Kidd Rampersadh was crowned Senior Angler of the Year.

The Knock Out Doubles champions are Kaveer and Ashveer Singh, with the former singled out for the Angler of the Year trophy.

Kaveer also caught the most fish and clinched the League Champion belt.

Beyond this season, the club will also host its Annual General Meeting and prize giving towards the latter part of the year.

“Marking the 25th anniversary of the club, this promises to be a glamorous function, with all the pomp, ceremony and true tradition of the club.”
