NEWCASTLE – The Northern Zone senior fours competition, played recently, ended in a good outing for the two Newcastle teams competing.

Trevor Douthwaite, Ernie Phillips, Mike Martens and Colin Brodrick drew their game against clubmates, Koen Pretorius, Billy Nicholas, Phil Connelly and Bert Rodgers.

Both teams won their other two games, resulting in Trevor’s team declared the winners, with a better shot average, and Koen’s team the runners-up.

Newcastle Bowling Club hosted the annual KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowling inter-zone competition last weekend, with four men’s and ladies’ teams from each of the Midlands, Northerns and Zululand zones competing to become the winner for 2016.

The Northerns women started off well and at the end of day one, were leading their section.

The Zululand women’s teams then had a good Sunday, to take the lead and win the section on 20 points, followed by Northerns (16) and Midlands (12).

In the men’s section, Midlands got off to a flying start, winning seven of its eight games on Saturday.

Zululand made a late charge on Sunday, but did not manage to overtake the leaders in Midlands, who regained its title with 21 points, followed by Zululand (17) and Northerns (10).

Monty, Fritz and Douglas kept the bowlers entertained on Saturday evening, making it a good one for all.

The support from sponsors in both Newcastle and Dundee is greatly appreciated by all present.

The KZNCB fours play-offs will be held at The Nest bowling club this weekend, and the Newcastle teams which have qualified are wished good bowling.

Dates for the Club Singles Championships have changed due to changes in District fixtures, and members must please re-enter on the list at the clubhouse.
