Koos Ferreira was crowned the 2015 Newcastle Racing Pigeon Club champion last week.

The seasoned veteran, who has competed in Kroonstad, Utrecht and Pietermaritzburg, put his almost 40 years of experience to good use, clinching the victory margin.

Koos, who moved to Newcastle in 2012, said his success was a result of quality, health pigeons.

“With proper training and dedication, good results are guaranteed,” he explained.

Members of the Racing Pigeon Club congratulated Koos on his achievement, and wished him all the best for the 2016 season.

The first race of the new season took place at Winburg.

Kiewiet Oosthuizen took pole position in the Young Bird race, while D.R.I.L. Loft – Renier van Niekerk ended first in the Open race.

“Congratulations to all members, on their good results.”

Racing pigeon flying is regulated by the South African National Pigeon Organisation, which has provided strict rules and regulations.

Birds are basketed on Thursday afternoons from 6pm.
