REGISTRATION for Southern Africa’s most exciting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament is heating up.

“At present, more purple and blue belts have registered for the 2016 Hanami Gi Challenge than white belts,” stated Dr Rochagnè Kilian on social media. “2014 saw 32 athletes compete. 2015 saw 81 athletes compete. We are preparing to host 150 athletes this year… In addition to the above and for the first time, we will have a team of trained referees at the tournament adding to the already prestigious event. Be a part of history!”

The 2016 Hanami Gi-Challenge, set to take place from April 30 to May 1, is the third Gi-Challenge to be held in the Republic of South Africa. After a fantastic 2015 Hanami Gi-Challenge, the 2016 Challenge promises to be even bigger and better than its predecessor, with the organisers preparing to accommodate 150 athletes this time around.

The primary purpose of the tournament is to stimulate the popularity of Gi within South Africa and to expand the beautiful art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Organisers intend to host the Hanami Gi-Challenges annually and are driven to establish and maintain the standard of excellence.

The secondary purpose is to maintain the international trend of BJJ tournaments to be hosted in the countryside. A weekend of no traffic congestion, short travel time and everything BJJ.
