Resident claims abuse at the hands of angry policeman

My argument is that no one is above the law and for a police officer to behave in the way this man did is totally unacceptable

Editor –

We had an incident at our furniture store on February 10. It was just like any normal day; I was seeing to a customer when a man and his wife walked into the shop. I had a table on display, so he asked how much it was.
I replied R550 and he said it was very expensive. I then carried on with my customer, because she had come in first. My assistant was having lunch; he left his lunch to attend to the man and his wife.

My customer had bought a bathtub and had to go to the warehouse to collect it, so my assistant had to go along.
The man’s wife walked out of the shop and the man then started screaming at me, asking who was going to help him. I replied that I would.

I was walking towards him and he pushed me onto the sofa; he had his leg on me. Luckily, my assistant had come in and when he saw this, he was terrified. However, he pulled the man off me and called the business owner.
The man was still arrogant and swearing. At this stage, I called the police.
The owner of the shop arrived and the man took off his T-shirt and threw it at me, saying he was “not afraid to die”.

I reported the incident and opened a charge at the police station. I was told that I would be given a case number the very next day. A week passed and no case number was received, so I called the station and spoken to the colonel. She was surprised and said she would look into it.

The next day, the investigating officer came to the shop and said my number was wrong on the charge sheet.
I asked him to call me when it went through. My argument is that no one is above the law and for a police officer to behave in the way this man did is totally unacceptable. Just because he is a police officer doesn’t give him the right to assault anyone, especially a harmless female doing her job.

The station is also not doing anything about it because he is a police officer and they are just leaving it. What type of policemen do we have? They are supposed to be protecting us, especially women and children.
