This means that, for the first time, the Khoisan nation will be recognised by the government and for the first time, they will have a budget.

For more than a decade, the Khoisan nation was classified as coloured people. It took activists this long with their own funds and efforts to get here, but what now?

Khoisan traditional leaders will now be recognised by government and will be able to do more. They will be part of local government development, which means our leaders will be placed in local municipalities to assist with service delivery.

The Khoisans’ first objective is to retain their heritage sites, historical landmarks and land for their development. Our traditional leaders must be paid by government and their land returned. This long-awaited victory came through much prayer and allowing God to guide us. Now that we are recognised, we can put our royalties in place so that our kings and queens can rule us. We are not political but cultural, so let us not be confused.
