Thaipoosam Kavady 2020 – ‘thanks to all who helped’

Words are just not enough to convey how much we appreciate your support, assistance and generosity.

Sir – The Dundee Hindu Temple Kavady Festival 2020 has been a resounding success once again, with devotees from Dundee, surrounding areas and as far as Johannesburg and Durban gracing the function.

On behalf of the Dundee Hindu Temple, I wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to all persons – young and old – who have so willingly and generously contributed to our Kavady festival. We also want to thank all the hard workers who selflessly availed themselves to assist in this massive undertaking. Sometimes, words are just not enough to convey how much we appreciate your support, assistance and generosity.

We also want to thank the Northern Natal Courier for the media coverage given to us. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation goes to the Endumeni Municipality for its support and assistance, with cleaning and general maintenance of the roads and pavements around the vicinity of the temple and along the Kavady procession route.

A big thank you is extended to the Department of Safety and Security for monitoring and controlling traffic during our kavady processions.

A special thank you also to Orange Grove dairy for the sponsoring of milk for our devotees. Our appreciation and gratitude goes to Dr Ramdharee, for having his ambulance and paramedics on the scene during our Kavady prayer on Saturday. Thank you to the paramedics who so efficiently took care of devotees, who were physically distressed due to the heat and saltless fasting.

The draw from the raffle to raise funds for the festival was held on February 8, and prizes were won by:

First prize – Sinotec 32-inch LED flat screen TV, donated by Mr and Mrs Soven Jhilmeet of Pomeroy, was won by Ruvlin Soobramoney of Dundee.
Second prize – a three piece Tupperware set, donated by Mr and Mrs Yogan Soobramoney, was won by Ahana Mungroo of Dundee.
Third prize – a dinner set and kettle, donated by Nioshee and Mihika Pillay and Neelam Kailas, was won by Ashish and Nirvana Gopie of Dundee.

We also awarded a motivational prize to Rammy Govender for the highest number of tickets sold – an Alva gas stove, donated by Mr and Mrs J R Naidoo of Pietermaritzburg.

May Lord Muruga bless you and your loved ones with success, happiness and good health. We look forward to your continued support in the future.

G. Dookhi – secretary
