[LETTER] It costs nothing to invest in each other

"I hope this story inspires others the way it has inspired me."

Madam – Your front page story last week was such an inspiration!

I actually follow the Facebook page #ImStaying and the stories there are a wonderful indication of the calibre of people that live in our beautiful country.

It is so easy to be blinded by dirty politics, corruption and bad business practice, that we often forget to be thankful for the small miracles we encounter daily.

Giving back to the less fortunate is not something I would publicise, as we do it with a clean heart and no need to broadcast to the public.

However, in this instance, the lesson learned from bringing it to the attention of the public is very justified. It costs us very little to invest in our fellow human beings.

What we take for granted is often more than most people could ever pray for, and for this young man to spend what little he had on those who had nothing, is such a blessing and really speaks to his true nature and character.

I hope this story inspires others the way it has inspired me. Because of his selflessness, I was forced to take a good look at what I can do for my community and I have begun a small initiative to help those in need in my area.

It may not be much, but it’s a start. And the greatest ideas all have to start somewhere. Thank you for telling us this story. It has changed my attitude!

Joey
