Why Indian aunties make great personal assistants

"Indian neighbours always know what is going on in your life, even if you choose not to tell them..."

In an age where work and the demands of life keep us constantly busy, it’s hard to remember birthdays or to keep in contact with friends.

Often we drift apart, and relationships and friendships take strain. Sometimes both parties are just too busy, or they’re waiting for the other to make contact first.

“If they really cared, they’d message first,” is the standard excuse most people use.

But while we make excuses or put other things first, we will continue to lose people from our lives. The only way to combat this is to be more like an Indian neighbour. Indian neighbours always know what is going on in your life, even if you choose not to tell them.

No matter how high your wall, or how far your house is from theirs, they have a way of knowing what’s going on in your yard.
They know when you receive visitors and can even tell you the make, model and number plate of any car that pulled into your yard.

This can be handy when you’re not at home and may have missed out on someone you really needed to see – just ask your neighbour if anyone stopped by today. They’re also great at security and will message to ask if that’s you walking around your yard at night with a flashlight.

Some Indian neighbours also monitor electricity usage at your home and will question why they didn’t see your room light on or why you left the bathroom light on the whole night. Some Indian neighbours even monitor what’s on the washing line and can tell when last you wore a certain outfit.

An Indian neighbour, especially the old aunties, would make great PAs and will be able to tell you when last you phoned someone, without even consulting their records. They can keep track of your eating schedule, meetings and latest gossip at the top of their heads.

An Indian auntie also won’t let anyone disrespect you, so you’d have a bodyguard and a PA all in one. It’s something the municipalities should look into, as it would save a lot of money.

Just hire one with a driver’s licence and she can serve as a driver too. Problem solved, Endumeni.
