[LETTER] Environmental education should be taught in schools

'Start young and keep the pressure on.'

Madam – I have a suggestion as to how we can perhaps reduce the proclivity of our younger citizens to litter.

Over many years, education at schools has been broadened to encompass new topics, so as to make our youth more responsible members of society. The most controversial subject that was considered vital to be addressed at school was sex and how not to fall pregnant!

Here the plan was to nip the problem in the bud.

In this vein, how about introducing “How to care for your planet” or “Better planet management by not littering”. I believe that education in this regard is sadly lacking.

Start young and keep the pressure on. Schools can lecture in class then do field work with rewards for excellent results.

Surely perseverance will pay dividends and our children and grandchildren will thank us.
