On October 3, when I arrived at the Wembezi council chamber for the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) workshop, I was shocked to see that the letter I had given Municipal Manager Mr PS Mkhize was floating on the floor. I reported it to the Administrator.

This shows that Mr Mkhize did not take my request to have protection seriously. The letter also contained full details about the threat I received, which was reported at the Estcourt police station.
I have been receiving plenty of phone calls (private numbers and SMSs), and unknown cars were following me. People intimidate me and say I should resign from the councillor’s position.
This shows that the municipality doesn’t care about our safety. I think the municipal manager is happy with the things that are happening in Estcourt.
Now we need the MEC to intervene, as we are not safe here; we need immediate action.
On October 2, an AL Jama-ha councillor survived a shoot-out and two councillors were shot.

It has been a long time since we asked the municipality to give us bodyguards.
If we ask them to talk about this, they ignore us. The community needs service delivery; not to bury us. I need the police to find those criminals who kill councillors in Estcourt. Please, community, protect us.
