Loch Sloy housing project is progressing well

We were sick and tired of being fooled by the relevant authorities, especially being told contradicting information by the mayor

After years of waiting for this project to materialise, we thank God it is now in progress and a lot is happening daily.

The economic condition has improved, poverty and unemployment is something of the past, and local business owners and homeowners with accommodation are making a profit.

SEE THIS:  The state of our municipality – ‘mess’

When this project was stationary for years, we were prepared to go to the Constitutional Court because housing is a right guaranteed in the Bill of Rights as contained in the National Constitution. We were sick and tired of being fooled by the relevant authorities, especially being told contradicting information by the mayor and MEC of Human Settlements.

When the sitting of the Provincial Legislature was in Wembezi in October last year, I was instructed by Councillor Dubazane to pose my questions to the Department of Human Settlements, since all councillors were not allowed to say a single word (which I did), followed by my article in the Estcourt News entitled ‘Local airs his service delivery concerns’, dated February 1, 2019, posing questions to the mayor and the municipality.

I was thereafter called by Mr Fairoz Shaik to his office at the municipality, who explained everything nicely to me, and Councillor Dubazane fought strong at council meetings. The community is now very happy about this project because this is what we have been looking for in terms of service delivery.

The Loch Sloy community is strong and united, and deserves the best. WBHO is a well-known, big company with a good track record in SA for the quality of their work. Even if you read their newsletter, you can see they mean business and are not here to milk money and run away.

They are here to change, develop and uplift the lives of our local inhabitants. Here, they are tasked to build 565 units, ie four rooms plus a utility room, plastered and painted inside and out, with ceiling and electricity. 221 wall plates have been constructed and more than 240 slabs poured (the numbers are increasing daily) since June this year, meaning they are making good progress.

Also, local sub-contractors are benefiting from this project. We have MtobyB, TKNDU, Nhlanganiso Trading, Gagashi Trading, Alondwe, Sandilenomzamo, Peacewell, MBV, LVN Ntshalintshali and others as local sub-contractors, as well as imports.

They are all trying their best to ensure that this project is a great success. We also send our deepest appreciation to CHS, especially Scelo Mhlongo, Sya and Sanele Mandlesilo, and all those who made positive contributions to ensure that this project materialised. Thanks a lot!
