Editor – Are teachers afraid of children at high schools these days?
Reading articles and seeing what’s happening on social media, I really do think they are afraid. Schools are becoming more and more dangerous, with pupils carrying knives or guns, as they are part of gangs. School is a place for learning to better one’s future, yet all learners can think about is “thug life” and getting up to nonsense.
I’m sure that teachers do everything in their power to keep learners on the straight and narrow, so to speak, but what chance do they have of stopping a gang fight involving 50 or 60 children carrying dangerous weapons? You can understand that they would fear for their lives in a situation like that.
I feel that more security needs to be brought into schools by the Department of Education to protect the learners who want to learn, and to protect the teachers as well.
