We are forced to take fuel increases ‘on the chin’

The Rand - Dollar exchange rate has also improved in our favour. How can the petrol price regulating person then justify this increment?

Madam –

Thank goodness our local paper has a Letters to the Editor column where your readers may air their gripes about subjects that irk them!

My complaint is regarding the ever spiraling price of petrol!

Our country experienced a large increment to the price a month ago, which I, John Citizen, found very hard to accept but obviously John Citizen had no recourse but to take it on the chin.

I hear now that our anticipated petrol price adjustment for this month is in the order of 11 cents per litre.

With tears in my pretty blue eyes, how can this be justified? From a month ago, the oil price has dropped in the order of eight to nine dollars a barrel.

The Rand – Dollar exchange rate has also improved in our favour. How can the petrol price regulating person then justify this increment?

What about giving John Citizen, and there are many of us, an opportunity to breathe a little easier for once, as we are faced with municipal rates increases too. We do not get subsidised cars and limitless fuel allowances.

We work hard for our pay. We educate our children so they may be of service to our country. We are proudly South African, its just a pity our South Africa cannot be equally proud of us and sustain us.

A question I pose is, how many other countries endure monthly petrol price adjustments?

Thank you Madam Editor.
John Citizen
